The Historic Route 66 Motel, Tucumcari, NM

exterior-officeThe Historic Route 66 motel was built in the International Style that was enormously popular in the mid 20th Century.  In typical Palm Springs fashion, each room except the suites feature curtain wall, floor to ceiling windows. You can just see Don and Megan Draper pull up out front for a 60’s weekend away! The lobby is probably one of the most distinctive mid-century modern (MCM) public spaces in any small economy motel built during the 1950’s and 60’s.  Minimalist in design, the motel is a fabulous example of early 60’s architecture.
the-owners.jpg.441x248_defaultMichael and Cathy Fulton, the owners who left their real estate jobs and moved to Tucumcari from back east to renovate this fabulous motel,  have kept a lot of the original furnishings and upgraded the bedding to provide a fabulous, clean, retro motel room. We stayed in one of the larger corner rooms and it was spacious, clean and very cool. Be sure to view all the photos in the slideshow, the rooms were amazing. A maximum of 2 service animals or well-behaved pets are permitted in a select number of rooms for a nominal fee.
